The current state of children in America:

Today, children need your help! They need the assistance of parents, other adults, educators, religious and business leaders, to cope with the many issues and problems that they face in the 21st century. This website is dedicated to revive Children’s Day as a tool of support and commitment to America’s children.

And you can be a part of this great movement!

This enterprise to rebirth Children’s Day, which began in 2005 with a spark from my late mother Mabel, is centered on three main points...

  1. Governors/state legislatures and mayors/city councils issuing proclamations of support (and hopefully the president).
  2. The signing of commitment cards by parents, individuals, and leaders.
  3. Using Facebook, Facebook page, to keep the discussion and commitment at a year-round level.

You are needed! A grassroots movement is needed now!

Remember this, in the United States, observations of Children’s Day, the second Sunday in June, predate both Mother’s and Father’s Day. Since 2007, Illinois governors have issued proclamations proclaiming the second Sunday in June as Children’s Day. The mayors of Aurora and Batavia, Illinois, also have issued proclamations. So again in 2010, we are for looking for more proclamations in more states and municipalities.

Yes, America needs Children’s Day. Just plain... Children’s Day with no additional adjectives. It’s simple, but needed! There are many needs for today’s children... foster care, adoption, health care, protection from crime, education, spiritual/moral guidance, and most of all love by family and community. Children are a gift from God and they are our future.

I feel that now more than ever, children need a special day and the commitment. I’m hopeful that individuals, churches, denominations, media, businesses, government, and organizations can help spread the support for a national Children’s Day on the second Sunday in June. So spread the word about www.nationalchildrensday.us and www.childrensday.us to family, friends, community, and state.

With hope,
John Ross
